This expansive prefecture is divided into three areas according to terrain, climate, transportation, history and so on. They are the Coastal Region or “Hamadori”, situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Abukuma Mountains, the Central Region or “Nakadori”, situated between the Abukuma Mountains and the Ou Mountains, and “Aizu”, situated between the Ou Mountains and the Echigo Mountains, and each area has developed by leveraging its respective characteristics. In the Coastal Region, which was affected by the tsunami and nuclear disaster, programmes can be implemented that combine diverse tourism and educational content from different parts of the prefecture.
